Welcome to Rome!

After an easy day of travel, we arrived in Rome. Our first stop.. the Roman Colloseum. It was everything I could have ever imagined and more. The amount of history in this one city was overwhelming!

Colloseum

We began exploring Rome at the Colloseum. It was fascinating to learn from our Italian guide about the history of the colloseum. Despite the thousands of years since it was built, a significant part of it still remains rather intact to this day.

Roman Forum

We continued exploring ancient Rome by walking through the Roman Forum. It was incredible to see the structures of ancient Rome, many of which are still being uncovered today!

Pantheon

Before stopping for dinner and listening to a young Italian girl play the violin, we stopped by the Pantheon. The architecture was incredible!

Vatican City Museum

We started our first full day in Rome with a tour of the Vactican City Museum. We explored many Roman artifacts and paintings by classical artists, including Michaelangelo. The most incredible part of the museum was having the opportunity to see the Sistene Chapel, one of the most magnificent displays of artistry.

St. Peter's Basilica

Our last stop of the morning was to see the Vatican. What an incredibly beautiful church! It was extraordinary to hear the history of the church and it's traditions, and to see ancient artifacts including Michaelangelo's Piata.

Trevi Fountain

We spent the remainder of the afternoon exploring other well-known Roman sites including the Trevi Fountain. Of course we had to toss a coin in and make a wish so that we can one day return to Rome.

Spanish Steps

We couldn't come to Rome and not climb the Spanish steps. Even more enjoyable than the view from the top, was the fabulous shopping at the base of the Spanish steps.

Farewell

After an incredible 14 days with an amazing Rick Steve's guide, a wonderful group of people from all over North America, it was time to say goodbye. We enjoyed a lovely group dinner, swapped stories with our new friends, and lastly, said "goodbye for now."
